Past President

Mary Strain



Mary graduated from the College of NJ-formerly Trenton State College-with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. She began working for Safeco Insurance/Liberty Mutual in 1999 as a multi-line representative for first party personal auto and homeowner’s property claims. Mary is currently a large loss specialist for the property unit at Safeco. In addition to her CPCU, she has an AIC designation. Mary has been an active member of the chapter since 2015. When Mary is not helping people through catastrophic losses, she can be found either hiking, skiing or enjoying any of the other outdoor activities Colorado is known for.


Sue Snyder



Sue graduated from the University of Colorado/Boulder with a business degree in organizational management and human resources. She has worked for Nationwide Insurance for over 25 years and has held the positions of Personal Lines Specialist, Underwriter and Agency Trainer, Manager and currently is the Commercial Training Consultant for the Southwest Regional office.  In addition to her CPCU she holds the Personal and Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist designations. She has also held the board position of Director of Operations and is a national committee member on the Underwriting Interest Group. Sue is also a CPCU board member for RMIIA.

Barbara Sidwell



Barbara joined the RMI team in 2014 as External Relations Manager. She has a background in commercial insurance as a broker with J&H Marsh & McLennan of Washington and as an independent agent/broker. She worked as Senior Career Acceleration Specialist at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, and as Assistant Director at Utah State University Career Services. Barbara has a Master in Science in Human Resource Management from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Whitman College. She has taught graduate and undergraduate business classes, had led student groups to London and Germany, and has taught at Yunnan University in Kunming China and in Japan.

Matthew Ward



Matthew Ward is a Sales and Client Services supervisor at Amica Mutual Insurance Company, a personal lines company known for their reputation in quality service and utmost customer care.  Shortly after graduating in 2009 from the College of Charleston, where he studied Psychology, Matthew began his career with Amica. Matthew was part of Amica’s Future Leadership program in Lincoln, RI and was relocated to their central Massachusetts office in Westborough, MA. After spending two years in Massachusetts, Matthew was relocated to Amica’s Denver regional office. Matthew has served on the Colorado Chapter’s Insurance Day committee in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.


Donna Gwidt



Donna graduated from University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor in Business & Organizational Administration, Summa Cum Laude in 2007. She also graduated from Cardinal Stritch University with an Associate in Business Administration in 2002. In additional to her CPCU, she also holds ARM, AU and AINS designations. She has been in the insurance industry since 1985. She has been with SECURA Insurance as a Commercial Lines Underwriter for 19 years. Prior to SECURA, she worked for Sentry Insurance and Hartford Insurance, and also in Independent Agency with Flood & Peterson and Brown & Brown.  Donna loves to travel and enjoys the outdoors with her family and her 2 goldens.


Kathy Bell



Kathy is the assistant claim manager on a dedicated program for Sedgwick. She has been with Sedgwick for 13 years, and in the insurance industry for over 25 years. She currently manages a team of 23 colleagues that handle liability and worker’s compensation claims and claim intake. Her background is in general and automobile liability claims. Prior to working with Sedgwick she handled personal injury protection claims in Colorado for a high risk carrier. Kathy holds several professional designations and is a Certified Master Intercompany Arbitrator with Arbitration Forums. She participated in a CLM Greater Denver Chapter panel discussion in 2015, Marijuana in Claims.

Director of Operations

Mark Shrode



Mark is a 1989 graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. He began his career in insurance with Aetna Life & Casualty and is currently employed with OneBeacon as a Claim Manager specializing in Workers’ Compensation Claims. Mark succeeds in the areas of field and desk adjusting, claim supervision, large account management, and commercial lines sales. He enjoys public speaking and joined a Toastmasters Club in 2008. He provides training and presentations on multiple topics. Mark resides in the Parker area with his wife and two children. He enjoys swimming, fishing, hunting and skiing.
